About the project
In north-eastern Africa lie lands that were once inhabited by diverse peoples who left behind a rich historical and cultural legacy, as well as numerous mysteries, myths, and legends. Thanks to Herodotus, scholars came to refer to these lands as “Aigyptos” (Ancient Greek: “Αἴγυπτος”), a name that eventually evolved into “Egypt”, while their inhabitants became known as Egyptians.
Today, most of these territories form part of the Arab Republic of Egypt, whose borders are clearly defined and internationally recognized. However, the precise territorial extent of Ancient Egypt during different historical periods remains uncertain, as no detailed maps of its territories have survived.
This study aims to construct a detailed spatio-temporal map of Ancient Egypt.
